The beautiful rural setting, with good access to a very interesting and varied source of tourist and geographical loctions, offers activities of many types. Over the past few years this has proved a good working centre for educational projects for young and older students alike - from first year history tracing packhorse trails to 'A' level biology - from circle dancing to creative writing, as well as giving experience of vocational training and communal living. We hope we are able to accommodate your group and we are sure you will enjoy your stay at our Centre. For further information/brochure and bookings contact:
St John's is situated in a quiet valley some three miles from the attractive South Pennine tourist centre of Hebden Bridge. The Centre stands close to the church on a side lane only 20 metres from the main road B6138. The village of Cragg Vale is small and there are few houses close to the centre. As is often the case, the church and inn - The Hinchcliffe Arms - are near to one another, the two being separated by a road bridge over a rock-stewn stream. There are many country walks in the area, the Pennine Way is only three miles away and the Calderdale Way passes the door! The local woodlands and moors, arpart from their beauty, have various facets of scientific interedt. The National Trust area of Hardcastle Craggs, containing acres of beautiful woodland and river is only five miles away. There are numerous other attractions within a ten mile radium, such as the folk museum and part at Shibden Hall, the unique 18th century Piece Hall in Halifax and good swimming facilities. Some may appreciate visits to the Bronte vicarage or steam railway at Haworth, or a quiet walk around the unspoilt ancient cobbled village of Heptonstall, both within quick easy reach by car. The Eureka children's museum in Halifax provides many fascinating new entertainment experiences in sight, touch and sound - well worth a visit. |
